A major fire broke out early Sunday morning at the Kara timber market in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, causing massive destruction.

The blaze tore through the market, destroying goods and structures worth millions of naira. Traders and eyewitnesses said the fire spread quickly before emergency responders could intervene.

 

“Smoke was everywhere. Before we knew it, the flames had taken over most shops,” said Musa Bello, a trader at the scene.

As of the time of this report, the exact cause of the fire remains unclear. Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the origin of the incident.

 

🛑 Government Reacts

The Kebbi State Government has expressed sympathy to those affected. In a statement by Abuzaid Yari, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, the fire was described as a “tragic event.”

 

> “We stand with the victims and pray that Allah replaces what they have lost,” Yari stated.

Yari also commended the state fire service for responding quickly. Their efforts helped prevent the fire from spreading further, potentially saving more shops from destruction.

 

He emphasized that the government remains committed to protecting the lives and properties of residents.
